Assam’s LGBI airport conducts emergency mock drill

A full-scale emergency mock exercise was conducted at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here on December 15 to ensure preparedness to counter any eventuality at the airport.

Agencies and stakeholders including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), state fire department, airport rescue and fire fighting services (RFFS), hospital institutions, Indian Air Force and Central Industrial Security Force took part in the mock drill, showcasing their skills, dedication, cooperation and coordination, a statement issued here on Wednesday said.

The mock exercise was carried during day time and continued till evening to check the full preparedness at the airport.

The said exercise was forethought by conducting a tabletop exercise at the airport, a month and a half back, where all the stakeholders assembled for a brainstorming session to discuss the sequence of events and procedures for the last exercise.

Airport Director Ramesh Kumar emphasised the significance of the exercise to all and entrusted it to a team to coordinate with all the stakeholders for the final countdown.

On completion of the drill, the Airport director Kumar addressed the stakeholders said, “Appreciated the professionalism, and it is imperative to maintain the continuity to handle any unfortunate real-time occurrences smoothly with minimum loss to life and property”.
