Assam: United People’s Revolutionary Front declares unilateral ceasefire

The United People’s Revolutionary Front (UPRF), a rebel group operating in the hill district of Karbi Anglong, has declared a unilateral ceasefire.

In a statement issued on Monday, defence secretary Chinkhansem Guite said, “In establishing a permanent peace and harmony in the region, the UPRF have decided to abjure to violence and wanted to join the mainstream to pursue our cause through peaceful and democratic means and therefore declare a unilateral ceasefire for two months with effect from November 11, 2020.”

Therefore, all cadres and commanders are to stop operations with immediate effect to enable to chalk out the peace process with the government, the statement added.
