Assam: Straying Kaziranga rhino immobilised, brought to the state zoo

GUWAHATI:

An adult male rhino, which had strayed out of the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve on January 15, was finally immobilised and brought to the Assam State Zoo for observation on Tuesday.

Sources said the herbivore, which moved out of the park in the Jakhalabandha area of Kaliabor, was successfully guided inside the park on Friday.

Park director, P Sivakumar, IFS expressed gratitude to the local people, including residents of Bamunipam village, besides officials of the civil administration and police department of Nagaon, Biswanath and Sonitpur for their cooperation.

Sivakumar further thanked the Biswanath Wildlife Division, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Sonitpur East (T) Forest Division, Sonitpur Social Forestry Division, Nameri Tiger Reserve and the State Zoo team, for their support in the rescue operation.
