Assam: Residents of Lezai-Bordoibam area protest against Moran MLA during a public meeting
Residents of Lezai-Bordoibam area protested during a public meeting organised by the BJP to discuss the annual flood problem.
Residents of Lezai-Bordoibam area protested during a public meeting organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to discuss the annual flood problem while accusing Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi of not including Bordoibam village in the newly constructed embankment.
Lezai-Bordoibam falls under Moran Legislative Assembly constituency.
To ease the woes of people affected by regular floods in Lorua and Bogibeel areas of Dibrugarh, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the construction work of an embankment at Kolakhowa Sessa river, and a ring bund at Bogibeel-Aaithan last year.
The project under the State-Owned Priority Development scheme (SOPD) is estimated to cost Rs 27.5 crore.
“The people are facing the woes of flood and erosion for several years, but in the past five years, we constructed a 7 km embankment over Sessa to protect the people from the annual flood. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, we have got Rs 22 core to construct embankment over Sessa river,” Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi said.
“The embankment will cover 119 villages, but they do not include our village. The total length of the embankment is 7 km. If they leave our village out, then during the flood, our village will go underwater. We urged the government and the concerned department to construct the embankment in the backside of our village,” a local of Bordoibam village said.
