Assam re-launches scheme to boost entrepreneurship
GUWAHATI | SEPT.04, 2020:
Two lakh youths of Assam would be provided Rs 50,000 each as seed money for entrepreneurship under a renewed scheme, Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (SVAYEM) Yojana, the state Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Friday.
The Rs 1000-crore scheme, which was part of the state government's budget speech in 2017-18, has now been launched as a new package, just about seven months before the Assembly polls in the state. The scheme is expected to encourage youths to initiate business ventures.
"The beneficiaries of the re-launched scheme would have to be members of self-help groups or registered with joint liability groups before September 1, 2020," Sarma said.
Members below the age of 40 years and with a minimum qualification of matriculation will be eligible for the scheme.
The minister further informed that another scheme, Abhinandan Education Loan Subsidy Scheme, will be re-launched soon. Under the scheme, students who have taken education loans at any point of time will get a subsidy of Rs 50,000.
