DIPHU:

Home guards arriving from other districts for election duty in Karbi Anglong have shown their dissatisfaction over the treatment meted.

The home guards alleged they cannot perform election duty with only Rs 600 for ration and other needs.

“In the past, during election duty, the government usually pay us Rs 5,100 per person for ration. On reaching here on March 28, there was no one to enquire into our needs. We were informed by concerned authorities, that each person for election duty will get Rs 600. It is not possible to manage with Rs 600. There two more phases of election and we have decided that with this amount we are not going for election duty,” said a home guard personnel.

On the other hand, with four (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LAC) going to polls on April 1, poll officials for No.18 Howraghat (ST) LAC and No.19 Diphu (ST) LAC started moving to their respective Polling Stations from the strong rooms at Diphu Government College on Tuesday.
