Assam Police seize ‘heroin’ at Jorabat; five arrested

GUWAHATI:

A team from the crime branch of Guwahati police along with personnel from the Jorabat police outpost arrested five persons from the Jorabat area on December 29.

The seized heroin weighing about 872 grams was kept in 72 packets, hidden in soap containers.

The value of the seized heroin is around ₹ 50 lakh.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sanjay Gogoi (20), Md Akbar Khan (21), Md Wahidur (31), Alok Gogoi and Rekha Gogoi.

Official sources informed that based on a specific inputs regarding an illegal drug trade at Ghanshyam Basti in Jorabat, the police team accompanied led by the Assistant Commissioner of police, Basistha, conducted a search in the house of Rekha Gogoi and seized the suspected heroin.

“Further legal steps are being taken,” sources said.
