Assam police recover huge cache of arm & ammunition in Baksa dist

GUWAHATI: Assam Police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the Barimakha, in Baksa district of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in the wee hours of Monday, official sources informed.

Based on information regarding hidden arms in the general area of Barimakha, the police team launched a search around 12.15 am.

“After a thorough search, the team recovered one AK 47 rifle along with one magazine; 107 rounds of live AK ammunition; one Glock pistol; eight rounds of 9 mm Glock ammunition from Barimakha near the bank of the Mora Pagladia River which were kept hidden underground,” a statement by Assam Police said.

“In this regard, a case has been registered and an investigation launched,” it said.

Notably, this is the second recovery of arms and ammunition in BTR in the past five days.

Last Wednesday, arms and ammunition, hidden underground, were recovered from the Lauti area near the India-Bhutan border Kokrajhar district, police said.

Assam Police had, in the run-up to the BTR polls last year, bolstered its search operations in BTR and recovered a massive cache of arms and ammunition suspected to be hidden by militant outfits.

On January 28, Assam Police released a list of arms and ammunition recovered from BTR so far.

According to the list released by Assam Police, the seized cache includes four HK series rifles, 56 AK series rifles, a rocket launcher, a grenade launcher and 22 country-made rifles among others.

The cache also includes explosives, detonators, bombs, magazines, bullets and grenades.

Besides, police have also recovered communication tools such as satellite phones and walkie-talkies, etc from BTR.
