Assam orders probe into Mizoram border violence

GUWAHATI:

Assam minister, Parimal Suklabaidya, has ordered a high-level inquiry into the alleged burning of houses by miscreants in the Lailapur area of Cachar district along the Assam-Mizoram border on October 17.

Suklabaidya, along with the Cachar Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and Senior District Administration officials, visited the Lailapur area on Sunday and took stock of the situation.

According to reports, at least four people were injured and a few huts and small shops were burnt on Saturday evening because of a territorial dispute between the residents of Lailapur and residents of localities near Vairengte in Kolasib district of Mizoram.

The minister also held talks with the residents of Lailapur to have an extensive overview of the situation.

He subsequently directed the Cachar police and district administration to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Suklabaidya, on behalf of the state government, also assured the people of Lailapur of support and cooperation.
