DIPHU: Karbi Ningkan Kimi – Karbi New Year was celebrated in Karbi villages here on Monday.

In several Karbi villages, sacrificial worship of hens and fowls were offered to the deities in the morning.

Public meetings and cultural programmes marked the day.

Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang said, “We should learn to live together with all tribes and communities. On this auspicious day of Karbi Ningkan Kimi, I pray to the Almighty to shower us with abundant blessing, peace and prosperity the entire year round.”

The CEM distributed land pattas (annual patta) to the villagers of Ward number nine and ten of Diphu town during the land patta distribution function held at Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso, here on Monday.

Altogether, 264 land pattas were distributed to the villagers.

“The KAAC has made it easy for people to get their land pattas. Without going to the Revenue office, the land pattas are distributed to them.” said CEM.
