Assam: Karbi Anglong celebrates 47th Karbi Youth Festival

The 47th Karbi Youth Festival was celebrated at Karbi People’s Hall (KPH), Taralangso in Karbi Anglong, Assam on Wednesday.

The festival was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang.

Organised by Karbi Cultural Society (KCS), the five-day mega cultural event started with flag hoisting by President of KCS, Chandra Sing Kro, followed with KCS anthem sung by KCS cultural troupe.

Addressing the people, Kro mentioned the support the KCS has received from KAAC under the leadership of CEM, Ronghang for the beautification of KPH, Taralangso.

"The road leading to Taralangso, entrance gate, Nothengpi – the centre of attraction, renovation of Longmirjeng and Sengmirjeng open stages and artiste camps and boundary wall were constructed under the directive of CEM Ronghang," he said.

“From this year, the CEM has planned to construct Mirjeng Musoso entrance gate, youth hostel and house for Karbi traditional kings of Ronghang Rongbong, Chinthong Rongbong, Amri Rongbong and Dumra at Taralangso,” Kro said.

CEM Ronghang also announced for purchase of a sound system for KCS.

He also announced the increase of budget allocation for hosting of KYF from the present amount of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by MP Horensing Bey; MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi; Chairman, KAAC, Longki Timung and Deputy Chairman, Ritesh Enghi; EM and MACs; general secretary, KCS, Bidyasing Rongpi and other dignitaries.

A total of 30 KCS Zones from Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Biswanath Chariali, Kamrup will take part in several events of the festival.
