Assam: Hemanta Kalita elected as Secretary General of Boxing Federation of India

Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) Secretary, Hemanta Kumar Kalita has been elected as the Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) joining Ajay Singh, who was elected as the president of BFI for the second consecutive term during the general elections at Gurugram on Wednesday.

Singh defeated challenger Ashish Shelar by a margin of 10 votes as he won 37-27 in the final counting.

Kalita secured 39 votes against CV Raje (25) to be elected to the post of Secretary General, while Digvijay Singh secured a post of Treasurer with 33 votes against Anil Mishra (30).

“Firstly, I thank all the members for this outstanding support to elect all of us. There is a lot that can be done for Assam and I will be working along with my colleagues to take the game further in Assam and North East,” Kalita said.

“My agenda will also include grassroots promotion for all northeastern states. Also, there are many women boxers currently from Assam. Our aim will be to encourage more and more male boxers to come up and be part of the national scene,” Kalita added.

The elections took place in the presence of AIBA and IOA observers, Yury Zaystsev and Rakesh Gupta.
