GUWAHATI:

Almost a year after 1,615 cadres of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) laid down arms at a formal surrender ceremony, the Assam government lived up to its commitment and distributed financial aid among 1,279 former cadres of the outfit on Tuesday.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal handed over cheques for Rs 4 lakh (one-time financial grant) to each of the surrendered cadres here in the presence of state DGP and other senior Assam Police officials.

“A momentous day! Ceremonially handed over financial grant of Rs 4 lakh each to 1,279 former NDFB cadres in Guwahati. I applaud their decision to return to the mainstream and believe that this grant will lead them to contribute further towards growth of Assam,” Sonowal posted on his official Twitter page.

Post the signing of the Bodo peace accord and subsequent surrender of the NDFB cadres, the central and state governments had promised financial aid to all the surrendered militants and to take their rehabilitation process forward.
