Assam gears up additional ICU beds

GUWAHATI | Sept 14, 2020:

Proactive steps are being taken to set up additional ICU beds in Assam.

Talking to media persons, Mission Director of National Health Mission Dr Lakshmanan S said that the additional ICU facilities with required infrastructure are expected to be completed soon at district and model hospitals.

He said that the fatality rate in Assam is lower in comparison with some other states but the number of COVID -19 cases are increasing in the state.

The Mission Director said that as of now, ICU beds are available in the state but if the number of cases keeps increasing additional beds would be required. To avoid such a situation he urged people to remain vigil.

Dr. Lakshmanan emphasised that people should focus on early detection and early treatment to avoid complications. He said that free testing facilities are available so people should go for testing if they feel any COVID -19 symptoms.

Dr. Lakshmanan stressed that people should wear face masks when they go outside.

Assam presently has 29 thousand 133 active cases.
