Assam Congress MLA passes away at 66

Congress legislator from Badarpur, Jamal Uddin Ahmed, passed away on Tuesday evening at Karimganj Civil Hospital in Assam.

The 66-year-old was suffering from heart ailments and diabetes.

Condolences soon started pouring in on social media platforms, with Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonwal posting the following tweet, “Saddened to learn about the demise of veteran Congress leader and Badarpur MLA Jamal Uddin Ahmed. Praying for the departed soul, I offer my sincere condolences to his family and well-wishers.”

“Extremely sorry to hear about the passing away of Congress leader Hon’ble MLA of Badarpur, Assam Janab Jamal Uddin Ahmed Saheb. My deepest condolences,” the president of the All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev, tweeted.

“Saddened to learn about the passing away of two senior Congress leaders earlier this morning, Badarpur MLA Jamal Uddin Ahmed and ex-MLA Dergaon Arati Hazarika. My prayers and condolences are with their respective families,” Deputy Leader Lok Sabha INC, Gaurav Gogoi tweeted.
