Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday presented appointment letters to 23 newly recruited assistant engineers of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department during a programme held at Janata Bhawan here.
Urging the recruits to contribute wholeheartedly in the endeavour of the department to provide safe drinking water, Sonowal directed the authorities to take urgent steps to provide arsenic and fluoride-free drinking water in the affected districts.
“It is important to create awareness among the people about the significance of safe potable water,” said Sonowal.
He also referred to the Jal Jeevan Mission launched by the Narendra Modi-led central government and called on the newly appointed engineers to ensure strict implementation of the scheme in Assam so that every household is provided safe drinking water.
PHE department Minister Rihan Daimary, during his speech, emphasised the need to ensure clean drinking water in the rural areas and called on the newly appointed assistant engineers of the department to dedicatedly perform their duties to deliver better public services.
