The criminal investigation department (CID) of Assam Police has arrested one more person in connection with the multi-crore pre-matric scholarship scam in the state.

“One accused, Abu Mucha Ahmed (48) of Badlabazar under Nagarbera police station in Kamrup district, was arrested on Monday,” a statement issued by the Assam Police informed on December 15.

The accused is a business correspondent of a bank and owner of a CSP (customer service point) at Badlabazar, Nagarbera.

“He was produced before the court today, which granted four days police remand,” the statement said.

CID teams have over the past couple of months been conducting raids in different districts to nab the accused in the siphoning off scholarship funds.

Among the 30 accused arrested include five headmasters, one teacher, five owners of customer service points (CSPs) of nationalised banks, a president of a school management committee besides at least 10 middlemen and a couple of electronic data processors.

They have been arrested for allegedly misappropriating pre-matric scholarship funds worth about ₹10 crore, meant for economically disadvantaged minority students.
