Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan, a rafting expedition to reach out to the younger population and to inculcate the concept of “living with the river”, was flagged off by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju from Gelling in Arunachal Pradesh on December 23.

A rafting team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will cover the route along the Siang/Brahmaputra River, docking at various stations before culminating at Assameralga near the India-Bangladesh border in Dhubri district of Assam.

Besides, participants of the expedition will also focus on scientific data collection and analysis on river water quality, river sediment, riverbank erosion and fish habitat along the entire route.

Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan is a central government initiative organised by Brahmaputra Board under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti to popularise sustainable practices and river rejuvenation.

The river rafting expedition-cum-public outreach programme is supported by the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments.
