DIBRUGARH:

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Dibrugarh district unit, stated that it would boycott singer Bipin Chawdang for his alleged derogatory remarks on AASU former general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi.

"We have decided to boycott singer Bipin Chawdang from all AASU programmes in the Dibrugarh district. Recently, he had given derogatory remarks on former AASU general Secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi in a BJP meeting in Tingkong. As AASU member, we would not tolerate such an act from a singer. We condemned his remark and boycott him from all AASU programmes in Dibrugarh," stated an AASU press release.

In a recent programme at Tingkong, Bipin Chawdang allegedly accused Lurinjyoti Gogoi and verbally attacked him for being involved in a political party.

Bipin Chawdang was in Tingkong and campaigning for Tingkong MLA Bimal Bora praising Bora for his developmental work in the Tingkong constitency.

"Lurinjyoti Gogoi telephoned me and accused me of betraying the trust of the people by supporting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and by making a U-turn on the issue," Chawdang said.

"Some of the AASU members wanted me to sing in Duliajan conference of AASU, but Lurinjyoti Gogoi denied the members not to call me because I have joined in BJP."

"During the CAA protest, Bipin Chawdang appealed to the people to tear the CAA, but now he said that earlier he didn't understand about CAA, but now he was clear about CAA. He has made a U-turn because he is campaigning for BJP Tingkong MLA Bimal Bora," Bulbul Dutta said.
