NAGAON:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, together with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, visited and attended the Pran Prathishta Mahotsav puja, at Maha Mrityunjay Temple, the world's tallest Shivalingam Temple (126-feet), in Nagaon district of Assam, on Thursday.

Talking about the temple's fame, Shah said, "The temple is the longest Shiv temple in Asia. The temple will be developed as a tourist site. Our government is committed to working for the development of the tourism industry of the region."

"I am fortunate to have performed puja in the mandir," he stated.

Criticising the previous governments, he said that Assam was earlier a hotbed of insurgency, but now it is flourishing with developmental projects.

Around 250 priests from Tamil Nadu had come to the temple to perform the Pran Pratishta Yagna.

Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), Jayanta Malla Baruah also said that the temple would uplift the tourism industry of Assam.
