It may be mentioned that in a press statement in possession with TNT- The Northeast Today, United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) (Ulfa-I) has denied involvement in the grenade explosion.

It may be recalled that Assam has been witnessing several violent militant activities- First the killing of 5 civilians in Tinsukia followed by the Sivasagar blast that claimed 2 lives and now the blast inside the inter-city express. Instances like these have raised eye brows on the present government's claims about improving the security measures in state.

When a local Assam based news channel 'Pratidin Time' visited the major railway station of North-Eastern region on Sunday after the explosion took place at a passenger train (Kamakhya- Dekargaon intercity express) near Harisinga railway station in Udalguri district, it was reported by them that thousands of people were seen entering and exiting the station without having to go through any security checks. The station witnesses the highest footfall as this is the major station of Northeast India.

Most of the passengers enter and exit the station through various gates.

However, Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials maintained that they would be making temporary arrangement for a couple of days before and after major events like Independence Day and Republic Day by deploying additional forces on the station premises.

Several passengers expressed their apprehension about the lack of proper security measures and demanded that the authorities take permanent measures to prevent untoward incidents.
