Assam: Student held for assaulting headmaster in Sivasagar district

JORHAT: A student studying in class X of of a government school was arrested on Friday on charges of assaulting his school principal in Assam's Sivasagar district.

Police produced the juvenile before the Sivasagar juvenile justice board principal magistrate. He was later handed over to his guardian for proper supervision and care.

Sources informed that the incident took place at Sivasagar government higher secondary Bahumukhi School at around 9 am on Thursday. The student who was also the general secretary of the school's students' association, physically assaulted the headmaster by reportedly punching him on his head thereby knocking him unconscious.

School authorities suspended the juvenile, held a meeting with teachers and lodged a complaint before police against him. Police booked him under section 332 (voluntary causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.

"We arrested him and produced him before the principal magistrate of the juvenile justice board here. Our investigation is on," said Pranjit Lahkar, officer in-charge of Sivasagar police station.
