Assam records 82.21 per cent voter turnout

GUWAHATI: Assam recorded 82.21 per cent voter turnout in the second and last phase of polling for 61 constituencies at 9 pm Monday in the second and final phase of Assam Assembly polls. Polling was going on in more than 8000 polling stations even after 8pm. Over 5, 0600 voters were yet to cast their vote and the Election Commission had allowed finish the task of voting though the time was over long back at 5pm.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Election Officer, Kamrup Metro has filed an FIR against outgoing Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on charge of violating EC norms. Tarun Gogoi held a press conference in Guwahati on Monday when the Model Code of Conduct was on effect in the state for the second phase of Assam assembly polls.

In Sarbhog constituency, the entire CRPF team deployed in the polling stations was replaced following the death of an 80- year old voter in a poll related clash between CRPF and voters.
