Assam: Pathetic condition of Barpeta Medical College irks Himanta Biswa Sarma
During an unannounced and a surprise visit to Barpeta Medical College & Hospital on October 4 to review facilities and check delivery readiness for patients, Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma noted with surprise the absence of many doctors.
As per a facebook post recently made by the minister, he writes, "Much to my discomfort I also learnt that many of these doctors had become permanent and habitual absentees causing lot of problems for our patients. Such dereliction of duties is highly irresponsible. We wish to make it amply clear that we have zero tolerance on such behaviour and no one will be spared if found indulging in such acts of indiscipline."
As an immediate action, the minister ordered salary cut for 24 doctors who were absent from work.
He also added, "I am committed to enhancing the quality of health delivery services and this will not come about unless we strengthen systems, ensure adherence to discipline and enhance transparency in systems. "
He also said that it is important to stand united and to go that extra mile to make Assam a wonderful state.
