Assam | Over 100 miscreants attack milkmen settlement in Charkholia Chapori, one dies
DIBRUGARH | October 21, 2019:
In a tragic incident, a 52 year old man died after a group of over 100 miscreants attacked a settlement of milkmen and cattle-rearers at Charkholia Chapori on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Murali Yadav, a milkman. He was rushed immediately to the Assam Medical College and Hospital who was declared death.
The attacked leaves many other people injured, and atleast 10 houses were also burn to the ground.
Locals alleged that the attackers were members of the Takam Mising Porin Kebang TMPK, a student organisation of the Mising community of Assam.
According to sources, TMPK unit in Dhemaji district had demanded donations ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 from each of the families for TMPK's 48th foundation day scheduled to be celebrated on October 16.
The locals denied to contribute for such hefty amounts of donations, the TMPK had left after threats and intimidation. The locals have lodge a complaint to the DC and SP of Dibrugarh on October 15 but no measures were taken.
On Saturday, a group of around 100 to 120 people armed with spears, sticks and machetes arrived at the village and started attacking everyone.
The Dibrugarh Police have registered a case against the TMOK Laimekuri unit.
However the TMPK has denied the involvement in the incident, and investigation on the matter is on.
