Assam: Muslim employees to leave work early during Ramadan
ASSAM: In what can be seen as the newly formed BJP government in Assam trying to extend it's support to the Muslim population of the state, the state government has decided to allow Muslim employees to leave their respective workplaces half an hour before the scheduled end of work time. This will continue throughout the month of Ramadan. However, the employees must however reach their work places half an hour before the start time. This would mean that employees would then work from 9:30am to 4:30pm instead of the usual 10am to 5pm timing.
This is seen as a very specific and calculated move by the BJP to ensure that the Muslims feel protected and also looked out for. With Assam having the second largest Muslim population in the country, this seems like a wise move to make.
The BJP came into power after pushing hard against illegal immigration and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed authorities to ensure that while trying to ascertain who the illegal immigrants are, no Indian citizens are harassed.
