GUWAHATI: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who was on a two-day tour to Assam took on PM Narendra Modi for his unfulfilled promises. The party leader while addressing a mass convention in Nagaon district said, "Modiji's marketing was very good, but there was no product and now the nation wants refund".
The state of Assam is going polls in two phases on April 4th and April 11th and this is the first election meeting of Congress in Borhompur constituency of Nagaon post declaration of poll dates.
Rahul Gandhi addressing a gathering of over 60000 thousand people also slammed the Modi-led government saying that Modi wants power by hook or crook and with this objective, they initiate fight among brothers.
"For the last ten years, Haryana had Congress government. There was peace and rapid economic growth during the Congress government. but after BJP came to power in Haryana there is unrest everywhere. This is the policy of BJP. The want power by hook or crook. They want to come to power by initiating fight amongst brothers"
While appreciating Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for his initiatives towards restoration of peace in the State post 2001, Rahul Gandhi stated that though the Modi government was trying to destroy the future of 8000 students in JNU, he would keep on fighting for their justice.
The Congress leader said, "A few days back I went to JNU. There are 8000 students enrolled in JNU out of which 1000 are from North East. I heard Kanhaiya's speech and there was not a single word against the country. The BJP government should put behind the bar those who shouted anti-India slogans instead of ruining the futures of these 8000 students. I will keep on fighting for the justice of these students."
Before addressing the gathering Rahul Gandhi joined a 6 km long Padyatra along with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, MP Gaurav Gogoi, AICC Assam in-charge C.P along with other prominent leaders. Over 40000 people joined the Padyatra along with the youth leader.
Rahul Gandhi also criticised the newly introduced Fair & Lovely scheme in the recent Union Budget stating that this was a strategy of the BJP government to turn black money into white which would only help corrupt practices.
