Assam: Man immerses infant in river for cure, arrested

GUWAHATI | September 30, 2019:

A man in Assam has been arrested on Saturday by the police on charges of killing his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

The incident came into light after the accused's wife filed an FIR at the police station, accusing him of killing their daughter. The man has been identified as Bribal Boro hailing from Assam's Lahapara village.

According to media reports, the man had drowned his infant daughter so to get rid of an unknown diseases from which he was suffering in order to be cured. On Friday, the man had gone out for a walk with his daughter and later returned home without her.

When the family members inquired about the infant, he told them that he had immersed the girl in the river because God had ordered him to do this.

Locals said that the man had been ill for almost a month and had been visiting a quake, who had advised him to sacrified one of his children so to be cured.

The body of the infant has been retrieved with the help of State Disaster Response Force team.The man would be produced in a local court after his medical examination, said police.
