GUWAHATI | August 16, 2019:
In an unfortunate incident, two people were killed after being hit by a truck at Baghmari in Biswanath district on Thursday.
According to local media reports, the incident took place at around 8:30 PM, when the two, who were riding in a two wheeler got hit by a truck
on the national highway in front of a petrol bunker in Assam.
The duo identified as Bipul Majhi and Susen Jogdula, following the incident they were rushed to a hospital at Tezpur where doctors declared them dead.
Meanwhile, locals residing in the area alleged that it was state Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's convoy which was involved in the accident. A large number of people also gathered at the spot and protested against the minister.
Later, the Assam Finance minister and convenor of BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), clarified about the incident and said that he, along with other police officials, had actually helped the victim in getting first aid in a nearby hospital and it was not his convoy but a truck.
While talking to media Himanta said that he saw the bike hitting the truck, immediately he stepped out of his vehicle and had asked the DC to arrange for their treatment.
"It's unfair to spread false news. Along with me, many others were present in the convoy. Why would everyone tell a lie?" Himanta added.
