Assam: Journalist stabbed in Guwahati, 4 persons detained

In yet another incident that has raised a question on the safety and security of journalists, a popular television journalist was stabbed in Ganeshguri area of Guwahati on the night of March 21.

The incident took place at around 11 pm on Thursday. The journalist identified as Chakrapani Parashar was allegedly stabbed by the owner of Albar Eats Restaurant after a reported altercation between them.

Four persons including the owner Sayed Ali Ahmed were detained by the Dispur Police. The three others are – Ankei Zaman, Miraj Ali and Nitin Sarma.

With regards to this, the United Television Media Association(UTMA) today filed an FIR with the Dispur police demanding strict action against the accused and urged the police for surveillance of the case.

Parashar who is reported to have sustained serious injuries is currently under medical observation at the GNRC Hospital, Guwahati.
