GUWAHATI | JULY 27, 2020:

The Northeast region's "biggest" Grand Poetry Festival is underway in Guwahati. This on-going online event in Guwahati started on July 12 and will continue till August 5.

The literature and art forum was organized in collaboration with the Kamata Foundation, a charitable foundation to enhance research and study on the indigenous cultures of North East India, in 2018.

The contest under the theme 'Celebrating Life' is being held in the commemoration of Pablo Neruda, one of the greatest poets of the 20th century.

The contest is open for people of age groups between 15 to 35 years and is being held in the virtual domain, due to the on-going pandemic situation.

The results of the contest are likely to be announced on August 9, 2020, on the occasion of 'International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples', remembering the first meeting of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations held in Geneva, 1982.

The organizers observed that the occasion is a celebration to acknowledge the cultural dynamism of Northeast India and its aboriginal populations and discussing the sorry state of affairs due to the Covid19 pandemic.

The winners will be presented with Rs Ten Thousand each, a certificate, and an e-certificate of participation for all the contestants.

The contest will witness eminent Jury members for selecting the winners who include singer and composer J.P. Das, Ghazal maestro Anirban Das, classical singers Nandita Sarma and Pragyan Barua, and Ahmedabad-based Assamese composer Anup Phukan for the singing category and Bhupen Chakravarty, Prof. Rakhee Kalita Moral, Prof. Asha Kuthari Chaudhuri and poet Madhu Raghavendra for the poetry section.
