Assam: Gorkha girl Surekha Chhetri takes Assamese culture to Voice of Nepal

It is said that music crosses all barriers and unites people and nations irrespective of their culture and traditions and this is exactly what this 21-yr-old girl hailing from Assam is doing.

Surekha Chhetri is one of the contestants in Voice of Nepal. She originally hails from Narangi, Guwahati in Assam and has carved a niche for herself in the field of music through her melodious voice.

Recently, she left the judges of Voice of Nepal stunned after her killer performance wherein she fused an Assamese song with a Nepalese song and left the audience mesmerized. Dressed in a makhela-sador, the traditional Assamese attire, the judges admired her unique effort.

It may be mentioned that Surekha's song named 'Nepali Jadio Axomiya' that was uploaded on Youtube on October 2015 has garnered more than 9 million views with more than 34 thousand likes. This was her first solo hit song. You can watch the video below:

She sings in various languages including Rajasthani, Assamese, Hindi, Bodo, Karbi as well as Manipuri. She has also received the Best female singer award twice at radio Gupshup music awards. Voice of Nepal is her first ever attempt at any reality show.

The host of this new series is Sushil Nepal and Oshin Sitoula, the coaches are Deep Shrestha, Sanup Poudel, Abhaya Subba and Pramod Kharel and the series is directed by Laxman Paudyal, the former director of Nepal's first international franchise singing reality show Nepal Idol season one.

The first episode was broadcast on Kantipur TV and on Ramailo HD on 25 August 2018. The show times are every Saturday and Sunday 9:00 pm (NPT) onward.
