Assam: Girl allegedly sets ex-boyfriend on fire after being blackmailed with intimate photos

In a rather gruesome incident, a girl allegedly tried to kill a man by burning him in Tezpur on Friday. The man identified as 24-yr-old Arun Sarma is reportedly the girl's former boyfriend. As per police, the victim suffered almost 60 per cent burn injuries and has been sent to Guwahati for treatment.

The victim alleged that his girlfriend invited him to his house thereby trying to kill him. Following an attempt to murder FIR lodged by Sarma's mother, police arrested Kabyashri Mahanta, the accused as well as her current lover Sunit Rai. Both were remanded to judicial custody.

"It's triangular love affair, The victim has told us that the girl sprayed something on his body from behind and started the fire following which the victim tried to escape by jumping in a drain. We will come to know the actual turn of events only after the investigation", police officer Arun Kumar Bora was quoted a saying to Times of India.

The girl however has denied the allegation and said that the victim tried to burn himself. "When we were in a relationship, he started blackmailing me with some of my photographs saying that he would upload them on social media".
