Assam By-poll Results: BJP wins three seats, AIUDF one

GUWAHATI | Oct 24, 2019:

With the counting coming to an end for the four assembly constituencies in Assam, the BJP is in high spirit having won three seats while the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) won one.

The BJP bagged three seats — Sonari, Rangapara and Ratabari while AIUDF sealed the Jania seat.

  • While, in Sonari, BJP's Nabanita Handique is leading with 13974 votes

The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in three out of four Assam by-poll seats, the AIUDF is ahead in Jania.

As of now, BJP is leading in all of Assam's four Assembly by-polls. These seats are Ratabari, Rangapara, Sonari and Jania. As per trends, BJP is likely to hold the first three and gain the last one.

Counting starts for all the four assembly constituencies in Assam

The bypolls was necessitated after three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislators — Pallab Lochan Das (Rangapara), Topan Kumar Gogoi (Sonari) and Kripanath Mallah (Ratabari) were elected to the Lok Sabha. Das and Gogoi were Ministers in the Assam government and Mallah was the Deputy speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.

Similarly, Congress MLA from Jania, Abdul Khaleque, was also elected to Lok Sabha from Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency necessitating the bypolls.
