Assam: Bodoland movement group announces fresh agitation programme

GUWAHATI, August 22: A series of agitations from later part of this month were announced by three organisations demanding separate state of 'Bodoland', to be carved out of Bodo dominated areas of Assam.

The agitations have been jointly called by All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), NDFB (Progressive) and People's Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM).

As part of the series of protests, a 10-hour national highway blockade will be organised by the women wings of these organisations on August 28 next.

It will be followed by a 12-hour statewide bandh on September 12 next. The protestors will also sit on a hunger strike from October 1 next.

A 24-hour railway blockade will be called by the protesting organisations in October, while an indefinite economic blockade will be called from November if their demands are not met.

The chief demand of the agitating organizations is a separate 'Bodoland' state to safeguard political and social identity.
