Assam: At least 40 statues, allied objects recovered from Brahmaputra

GUWAHATI | DEC 2, 2019:

At least 40 pieces of statues and allied objects, mostly used in worship, have been recovered from the bed of the Brahmaputra at Uzanbazar area of Guwahati.

Police sources said, the valuable statues and objects were recovered by a joint team of police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). The origin of the objects and other related issues are being investigated.

The idols were first spotted by a local person while bathing in the river yesterday, who informed the local Latasil police station.

Meanwhile, the DGP announced cash awards to police and SDRF personnel involved in the recovery.
