Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram & Nagaland gear up for good rains

WEATHER | JAN 20, 2020:

Weather of Northeast India was running almost dry since the last many days. However, clouding has increased over the region during the last 24 hours. Moreover, multiple places recorded good rains already.

During the last 24 hours, while Guwahati received 13 mm, Jorhat 3 mm, Chaparmukh 5 mm, North Lakhimpur 16 mm, Dibrugarh 2 mm and Pasighat recorded 18 mm rains.

At present, a Cyclonic Circulation has developed over parts of Assam. Also, the remnants of Western Disturbance have travelled all along the foothills of Himalayas up to Northeast India. The combination of these two systems will soon lead to even more rain activities over the region.

We expect light to moderate rains over Eastern parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland during the next 24 to 48 hours. One or two places might even see heavy spells. Moreover, rain and snowfall activities are also possible over many parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

After 48 hours, the weather will once again go dry over Northwest parts of the country. However, isolated light rain may continue over eastern parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

As a pattern, Northeast India remains almost dry at this time of the year. At most the region receives on and off scattered rain activities. Usually, the rain activities occur whenever a Cyclonic Circulation develops over the region.
