Assam: Appeal made to exclude students, teachers & employees from ongoing protests against CAA

GUWAHATI | December 23, 2019:

In Assam, a group of eminent persons have made an appeal to exclude students, teacher and employees from the ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, CAA. They urged all to maintain peace and harmony in the state.

The appeal, published in newspapers today, says that – it must be ensured that nobody takes political advantage in the name of protest. It also mentions that Assam had to suffer a lot in the past 40 years due to agitation, adding that agitations discouraged not only the investors but also the tourists.

Those who appealed include – former Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Sekhar Musahary, Senior journalists Kanak Sen Deka and D N Chakravarty, former Ambassador B K Gogoi, former DG of the National Museum R D Choudhury, film Director Manju Bora, former Vice Chancellor of the Gauhati University N K Choudhury among others.

The appeal also says that though people have constitutional right to protest, but it would be suicidal to hamper the academic environment and the overall development of the state. They also appealed that – all must wait for the Supreme Court judgement on this issue.
