Assam | Another accused arrested in Nalbari gang-rape case, 1 absconding

GUWAHATI | October 29, 2018:

On Sunday, another accused in connection with the Nalbari gang-rape case has been arrested by the police from Kamrup district.

With the arrest of Rupdhan Ali, another accused, till now four out of five have been arrested with one, Meerazul Ali, who is still absconding.

On Wednesday evening, a 24-year-old woman was gang-raped by five persons inside a moving car at Tihu in lower Assam's Nalbari district. The woman said she and her husband were returning from Nathkuchi village in
Tihu when they were offered a lift.

A daily wager by profession, the woman's husband who was on his bicycle, allowed her to go with the accused as all of them were from Patacharkuchi, the place where the couple lived.

Rupdhan's arrest comes after Nalbari Police on Friday night arrested Kishori Mohan Das (25), one of the prime accused in the case, from Rangiya in Kamrup district.

Two other accused – who have been identified as Bokul Nath and Md Nurul Ali – were arrested on Wednesday, immediately after the incident of rape. Nath and Ali were sent to police remand for three days.

SP of Nalbari, Shiladitya Chetia said that for two days, Das was sent to police remand and Rupdhan will also be remanded. He said that Meerazul Ali, who is on the run currently will be arrested soon. He added that a manhunt is on to catch Ali.
