GUWAHATI | AUG 22, 2020:
Assam police, on Thursday, arrested six individuals while they were travelling in a car and seized Rs. 4 lakh, 25 ATM cards, six mobile phones and several PAN and Aadhar cards.
They identified the arrested individuals as Md. Nazarul Islam (39), Md. Mustaq Ahmed (40), Md. Fakrul Ashan Khan (49), Himam Hussain (34), Rohis Uddin (55) and Mijahidul Islam (30).
"They were involved in collecting PAN and Aadhar cards from people. They applied, received and siphoned off loans accessed from a central government website. They used duplicate mobile SIM cards to complete the loan process," said the SP of Morigaon, Nanda Singh.
In a separate incident on Friday, five individuals were arrested while they were attempting to bribe police personnel.
"The five persons came to me and offered a bribe of Rs 4 lakh in cash to release the arrested criminals. We arrested them on the spot. We seized the cash and their vehicle," Singh said.
They identified the five individuals as Riabur Islam (19), Ziahur Rahman (37), Suahil Ahmed (29), Sahinul Islam (24) and Injamamul Islam (24).
According to the police, all persons who were arrested are from Moirabari and Laharighat.
