As Northeast India puts up stiff fight against Citizenship Bill, ABVP welcomes Bill passage

While Northeast India continues to reel under the trauma of bandhs, protests and rallies to oppose the passage of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has welcomed the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in the Lok Sabha on January 9.

ABVP also condemned the false propaganda run by the anti social elements who on one side had lost grounds in the northeastern states and were using the issue of the Citizenship Bill coupled with NRC to further their political propaganda without paying heed to the emotions of common people.

It may be mentioned that ABVP is a right-wing all India student organisation affiliated to the Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).It is said to be India's largest student organisation with more than three million members.

In a press statement dated January 13, they appreciated the fact that the concerns of the persecuted minority refugees from the neighbouring countries still languishing for basic human rights for decades were being recognized through the mentioned Bill.

The press statement also added that the Bill will enable the Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Hindu, Parsi and Christian refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan to get the long awaited justice that they deserve.

In their letter, ABVP also urged the people to not fall prey to divisive tactics and asked political parties to rise above petty vote bank politics and put the nation first.
