Arunachal Pradesh: Two hardcore NSCN militants arrested; major blow to extortion activities!

ITANAGAR, July 28: In a major operation, security forces apprehended two NSCN militants and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Based on specific intelligence about presence of militants trying to carryout extortion drives in Old Changlang, the Assam Rifles's Changlang battalion launched operation at the area and apprehended a Central Council Member of NSCN(R) on Thursday morning.

The arrested militant was identified as Daneal Langching and recovered a pistol, large quantity ammunition, a sophisticated Motorola Satellite phone, Rs 8000 in cash, two mobile phones, hand written extortion notes and other incriminating evidence in possession from him.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, post spot interrogation the militant admitted allegiance to NSCN(R) and further divulged that he has been an active part of the banned outfit since 2015. Hewas previously an active cadre of NSCN(K).

"The militant has been involved in many extortion cases in Changlang district. The apprehension of the militant will result in a major leadership upheaval in the outfit and could severely dent the extortion nexus," Konwer said.

In a similar operation launched by the Longding battalion, security personnel have nabbed a militant of NSCN (U) from New Forest Colony, who has been identified as Tulsi Dharan.

"Post spot interrogation, the militant admitted allegiance to NSCN(U) and further divulged that he has been an active member of the banned outfit for last three years and has been previously involved with NSCN(K) from 2007 to 2014," the Defence PRO said.

Security forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area.
