ITANAGAR | September 5, 2018:

President of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee, Takam Sanjoy on Tuesday had criticized the BJP-led NDA govt which is headed by PM Narendra Modi for looting the masses with an exorbitantly high rate of fuel in India.

In a press statement, the former MP said that the average price of gasoline around the world is 1.17 U.S. dollar per barrel while 1.16 dollar per litre in India. All countries have access to the same petroleum prices of international markets but impose different taxes and offer subsidies for gasoline leading to different retail prices of gasoline.

India's rate is too high as BJP MP Subramaniam Swamy who has been urging Modi Govt to reduce the rates, on Monday resorted to a stinging attack on NDA and asked the Centre to bring down fuel prices to Rs 48, saying anything more than that is extortion, he said quoting Times Now.

He also said that DMK president MK Stalin has strongly condemned the hike in petrol and diesel prices as per the whims and fancies of the Central Govt, saying New Delhi is a mute spectator and has not taken any measure to reduce the fuel price as flashed by Time Now.

However, he had asked the state govt to reduce all local taxes and VAT on fuels as the high rate has been pushing rates of essential commodities in Arunachal Pradesh where transportation by road is the only means of communication.

He also added that If the Govt fails to do so, the Congress would be forced to take the facts and figures to hold the dharna in district HQs including state capital to explain the masses how the state Govt has been looting in the name of acche din, he said.
