Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur police register FIR against Sharjeel Imam for sedition

NORTHEAST INDIA | JAN 27, 2020:

Arunachal Pradesh police's crime branch have registered a case of sedition against Sharjeel Imam, the JNU student for his alleged comments of cutting off Northeastern states from the rest of India on Jan 13.

According to a senior state police officer, they had received information that an objectionable video was being circulated on social media platforms including whatsapp , Facebook, Twitter etc – inciting secession of Assam and other NE states including Arunachal from rest of India.

Following the matter, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu tweeted on Sunday.

The crime branch of Itanagar has registered a case against Imam under sections 124(A), 153(A) and 153(B) of Indian Penal Code for sedition, promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence and language etc.

Another FIR has also been registered by Manipur Police against Imam under sections 121/121-A/124-A/ 120-B /153 IPC.

Rajat Sethi, Advisor to Manipur Chief Minister tweeted,

Meanwhile, in a raid carried out by Police after multiple FIRs were filed against Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam, two of his relatives were reportedly detained.
