Arunachal Bypoll: Chakat Aboh wins Khonsa West seat by 1829 votes

ITANAGAR | Oct 24, 2019:

Independent candidate, Chakat Aboh has sealed the Khonsa West Assembly seat by defeating her closest opponent,
Azet Homtok by 1829 votes.

The counting which started at 8 am today witnessed a straight fight between Chakat Aboh and Azet Hamtok though, in all the rounds, Aboh was leading the race. Aboh won the election securing 5614 while Homtok secured 3785 votes.

HERE ARE THE UPDATES:

11.30 AM:

After four rounds, Chakat Aboh is still leading, securing 5586 votes while Azet Homtok garnered 2799 votes.

10:00 AM:

Mrs Chakat Aboh, the wife of NPP leader Tirong Aboh who was shot dead in May, is leading securing 3880 votes while her Azet Hamtok secured 86 votes in the first round.

Counting starts

Aboh has been unanimously fielded by five major political parties, including the ruling BJP in the state.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Tirong Aboh, who was declared elected from Khonsa West seat as a candidate of the National Peoples Party (NPP) two days after his death.

Aboh, his son and nine others were shot dead by suspected NSCN militants at 12 Mile area in Tirap district on May 21.
