ITANAGAR: According to sources it is reported that a 30 year-old newly-wedded woman was allegedly raped by a man who is supposedly said to be a close relative of the victim at Sipu colony, Aalo, in West Siang district.

The man has been identified as  Martin Bagra, is a habitual offender and was arrested the same day after a registration case was filed under section 376 of IPC and is now under judicial custody, informed West Siang district SP M Riba. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged at Aalo police station by the victim herself. Samples for medical tests have been taken, and police is waiting for reports to come, informed the SP.

He committed the hideous crime at his residence despite being a married man and the woman is reported to be his adopted-sister who had been living with the family since she was a young girl.

Bagra is a repeated offender and his actions have been strongly condemned by the the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW). The Commission directed the authorities not to grant him bail without punishment as per the law.

However, the accused could be granted bail again, the APSCW requested those backing him up to consider the dangers of letting a criminal loose in the society.
