Army plans aggressive counter-insurgency ops in Arunachal Pradesh; one NSCN-K cadre arrested

ITANAGAR, September 4: The Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended one self-styled 2nd Lieutenant of NSCN (K) Wakka Circle in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to a press statement issued by the Defence PRO Lt Colonel Chiranjeet Konwar informed that acting on intelligence tipoff an operation was launched which led to the arrest of a senior NSCN (K) cadre, self styled 2nd Lieutenant along with a Pistol & ammunition.

The self styled 2nd Lieutenant is a senior leader of NSCN (K) mobile two group and has been coordinating extortion activities in Wakka Circle of Tirap district. The hardcore cadre joined NSCN (IM) in 2006 and underwent three months weapons training, it said.

The statement further said the Assam Rifles under DAO DIVISION has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area.
