AN-32 crash updates: Court of Inquiry ordered to investigate cause of accident

ITANAGAR | June 13, 2019:

A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the AN-32 crash in Arunachal Pradesh, an accident which claimed the lives of 13 personnel of the Indian Air Force.

"A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of accident," IAF officials said adding that the IAF is making all efforts to recover the mortal remains.

"No effort is being spared in ensuring expeditious transfer of the mortal remains of the air-warriors to their parent base at Jorhat," said IAF.

Earlier, the IAF confirmed that there were no survivors in the AN-32 crash. This was determined by the eight members of the rescue team who reached the crash site on Thursday morning.

The 13 IAF personnel have been identified as Wing Commander GM Charles, Squadron Leader H Vinod, Flight Lieutenant MK Garg, Flight Lieutenant S Mohanty, Flight Lieutenant Tanwar, Flight Lieutenant R Thapa, Warrant Officer KK Mishra, Sergeant Anoop Kumar, Corporal Sherin, Leading Aircraftman SK Singh, Leading Aircraftman Pankaj, NC(E) Putali and NC(E) Rajesh Kumar.

In its tweets earlier today, IAF wrote, "IAF pays tribute to the brave Air-warriors who lost their life during the #An32 crash on 03 Jun 2019 and stands by with the families of the victims. May their soul rest in peace."

On Tuesday, the IAF had spotted the wreckage of the missing AN-32 aircraft 16 km north of Lipo, northeast of Tato, at an approximate elevation of 12,000 feet with the help of an IAF Mi-17 helicopter undertaking search in the expanded area.

The transport aircraft took off on June 3 from the Jorhat airbase in Assam for the Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground in Arunachal Pradesh's Shi-Yomi district bordering China.
