A Tribute to Kalikho Pul- The Arunachal CM who died seeking Justice!

August 9, 2017: Kalikho Pul, the former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh was often termed as a depressed person and this was clearly evident from his 60-page suicide note "Mere Vichaar" that he left before he committed suicide in his Bungalow in Arunachal on the fateful night of August 9, 2016. Rising from the ashes, Kalikho Pul hailed from a border village in remote Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. Pul trekked a long way in his political career to became the eighth chief minister of the Arunachal Pradesh.

He was born in July 20, 1969 to Tailum Pul and Koranlu Pul at Walla Village under Hawai circle of Anjaw district. Kalikho did his graduation in humanities from Indira Gandhi Government College at Tezu in Lohit district. His political innings started in 1995 when he was elected as an MLA from Hayuliang constituency and became the minister of state for Finance in the Mukut Mithi government. He was also the executive member of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee for 13 years and Pradesh Election Committee Member for 7 years. Kalikho Pul was very fond of reading, travelling and sports including chess and badminton.

Pul's political career was full of turbulence, especially the period ranging from February to July 2016- the time when he was the CM of the state, as revealed from his 60 page suicide note titled 'Mere Vichaar'. On the fateful day of August 9, 2016, his body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his residence.

As per to initial reports, he was seen to be suffering from depression and was extremely upset after his appointment was struck down by the Supreme Court. He was known to be a person of strong grit and determination. Days before his suicide, he was supposed to vacate his official residence to make way for new Chief minister Pema Khandu. Pul, then 46, became the eighth chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh in February 2016.
