8-year-old child dies in firing inside video hall in Assam

HAFLONG: An 8-year child was killed and a 10-year-old was injured in an attack by unidentified men inside a video hall in Dima Hasao district.
A police officer said quoting delayed report from the interior area that two unidentified men came to a video hall in Tin-Kilo coal quarry market near Umrangso town and started firing at random last night even as a film was being screened before an audience of day labourers.

According to reports, three persons came to a video hall in the Assam Coal Quarry area, about 37km from Umrangso town, around 8pm in search of the hall's owner, Ziaur Rahman. When they did not find the owner, they fired one round from a small weapon in the hall packed with around 30 persons.

As one 8-year child died instantly and another 10-year old received bullet injury, the gunmen fled.

The deceased has been identified as Maruf Ahmed, while the injured one is Bishan Tamang.

The injured child was shifted to Hojai and his condition was now stable, the officer said.

Senior police officials from Umrangso and Haflong went to the place and security forces launched an operation to nab the culprits.

The official said all possible angles were being looked into the attack.
